Preface

When I was in contact with BitLoft for my interview, I had mentioned that I had a WordPress background behind me. Around the time that I started my career at BitLoft, they had launched a new site. However, the new site was oversaturated with video, didn’t work well on Safari or mobile phones, and had some navigation issues.

Timing

Obviously, timing is everything. After a shift in direction, we decided that we needed to update our website to better reflect who we are as a company. With this, we set off to create a website that illustrates us as a creative agency.

Inspiration

Having recently completed another website, (you can see that one here), we decided that we wanted ours to have a similar look/feel. If you compare the Return, Oh Jesus website with our company website you will see some similarities.

But we still needed to add some more BitLoft flavor to the site. We started playing with adding filters to our images to create duotone images. That was step 1. After that, we started playing with shadows, gradients, and rounded edges. That set the overall goal for the rest of the website.

As smooth as cold brew

I like smooth transitions and smooth shadows. CSS was previously limited in how smooth that gradients and shadows could be. But, I recently found some tools that provide some assistance in creating smoother gradients that don’t color-step, as well as smooth shadows.

The end result of both of these tools is incredible, and I’m really happy that I found them a while ago as the BitLoft site was a perfect place to make use of them.
